This is a new venture for us... with so many bone, horn and wood pieces around the shop we wanted to find something that would make use for them. I hate waste! :D We think we found a great use in making handles and knives! Be on the lookout for many more designs soon.

Micarta Custom one of a kind handle. Micarta handles are quite popular. I learned that Micarta had been around for over one hundred years. The material was trademarked by George Westinghouse and was originally used for electrical insulators.
We own an ancient RCA tube radio made from Bakelite. When it was first marketed, it was a wondrous material, a resin thought to be indestructible. Old school Micarta was made from this same resin and a variety of fibrous materials. Today, Micarta is made from resins layered with fiberglass, cork, linen cloth, cotton fibers, and other fabrics.
Clinical talk aside, what makes a Micarta handle special?
The nature of Micarta is such that it can be manufactured in virtually any color, depending on its formulization. It is strong and durable, and has become a favorite material for use in heavy-duty survival knives. It tolerates extremes of heat and cold, resists moisture, and doesn’t become brittle with age. Most Micarta-handled knives will outlast their owners’ lifespans. The handles simply don’t wear out. Durability can be determined by the type of epoxy used in the handle’s construction, but unless you plan on putting it between a hammer and anvil, sturdiness should not even be an issue. A Micarta handle should stand up to anything a knife should be used for.
Micarta is resistant to solvents, grease, and just about any caustic substance imaginable. Depending on the fibers used in its manufacture, it can be buffed to a fine sheen. However, if you prefer something “grippier,” then textured handles are available, too. Micarta handles made with linen have a canvas-like feel. They won’t escape your grip easily.
We are currently both 15N20 and 1095 high and low carbon steel that is then folded & forged several times to obtain hundreds of layers. Then we have heat treated and oil quenched it acquire a hardness of HRC 55 to 60 on the Rockwell Scale.
1-3 business days
Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. I'm not responsible for delays due to customs.
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
We are always happy to work with store owners, barber shops, online resellers and anyone who wants to sell Dixie Cowboy Products. Just send us a message and we can work on a custom wholesale order just for you. We are not currently wholesaling our handmade combs and brushes, it is just impossible to mass produce these at this time. Some minimums apply when placing items for resale.
While our handling and processing time is set to 3 business days we generally ship out rather quickly. We schedule pick ups for Monday and Thursday every week so you can expect your order to go out on those days (depending when you order).
Where applicable we will give an idea of the ingredients in the product. We do this for the love and all items are as advertised so if we say something is "glycol free" or "soy free" etc... it is. BUT we've had so many fishy people lately trying to get us to give them the recipe to our unique items. We love these products and we love you (our customers) so rest assured that our products are 100% as advertised. BUT again, if you have a specific allergy please just email us and we can tell you if it's safe.
We love what we make and our handmade items take up most of our free time these days. We treat each one like it's our artistic interpretation and as a piece of art. We no longer accept custom or personalized orders as what little free time goes into creating more product for our shop. Thank you for understanding.
No not all but many, any item that can be custom scented for you will have a drop down menu with a SCENT category in the listing. Some products can not be scented due to a majority of reasons.
Our animal hair is sourced right here in Texas. All our wood is sourced right here as well but there are a couple for obvious reasons like they don't grow in Texas that are sourced elsewhere. Same with the horns. If you are looking to start your own comb or brush business I would suggest doing some research as I'm not giving up my contacts :D :P :D :P
I can't give you a class on how to make the brushes or combs, please don't ask me to walk you through how you can make the brushes or combs yourself. I'm sorry but I've worked hard to create a niche and it's not very nice to expect me to give out trade secrets and walk you through how to attach, clean, sanitize etc.. the boar hair and attach it :D :P :D :P.
This seems to be the number one thing I've had emails about recently. All animals are treated with respect and dignity. When possible the material is sourced right on our farm but when needed we buy from other suppliers. It goes without saying that our GOAT and HORSE hair brushes are from "no kill" animals. Our boar hair is sourced in Texas from several places and is collected from wild boar who are hunted and processed for meat. There is no cruelty involved and all boars are dispersed as humanely as possible. Hair collection is only done when animal is processed after death.
Our typical packaging consists of brand new heavyweight boxes and new bubblewrap... BUT .... we hate waste here whether it's horn chunks, wood pieces or even packaging items we get ourselves. SOOOOO I always keep a big box full of brown recycled paper, air pillows and anything else I can reuse. We don't normally ship with it UNLESS someone asks so PLEASE PLEASE just add a note with your order if you would like Green packaging.
We can not accept returns on items like combs and brushes etc... I could never in good faith accept a used comb back and resell it. Just the thought of it makes me cringe typing this :P If you ordered something that wound up not being perfect for you then do get in touch and we can chat about giving you a discount code to try another item. BUT under no circumstance can I even think about taking back those kinds of items. We love our customers and always use the highest standards when it comes to health and safety.
